The Bookor Moort students recently travelled to Optus Stadium to take part in an enriching Aboriginal cultural experience with Whadjuk Elder Nick Abraham, learning about the Nyoongar cultural influence in the development of the Optus Stadium Precinct and Matagarup Bridge.
Students explored the history of the Nyoongar Nation, including pre-colonisation and the importance of truth-telling, while gaining a deeper understanding of Aboriginal connection to Country. They participated in a cultural ceremony, learnt traditional Nyoongar words and had the opportunity to engage with authentic cultural artefacts.
The experience continued inside Optus Stadium, where students were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, including the West Coast Eaglesโ changerooms, the Dennis Cometti Media Centre and a coaching box.
It was a valuable opportunity for students to connect with Aboriginal culture and history, while gaining a greater appreciation of the enduring Nyoongar influence on Perth and the land on which our community stands.
