The Benefits of BYOD
Personalised centred learning – The schooling generation of today is like no other. The personal devices of these native tech head students have become a significant part of their everyday life.
Allowing students to have access to their personal devices for educational purposes enhances motivation and engagement within a classroom setting. As a result, involving these devices as an integral part of a student’s learning life will encourage active learning and education as a central part of their everyday life.
Work force ready students with 21st century skills – As mobile devices are part of 21st century living and are an integral part of gaining 21st century skills, BYOD would enhance students ability to learn these necessary skills for the workplace. The use of personal devices for calculations, communication, videography and photography allows a student to integrate the device into their daily life; just as it would within the workplace.
Continued learning at home – BYOD allows students to access the same device at school and at home. Consequently, it can extend learning opportunities to times and places outside the classroom; using technology that they are already familiar and comfortable using.
Enhanced collaboration and communication – Within the classroom, collaboration is crucial for engagement. As BYOD provides students with far greater opportunities to interact virtually with teachers and work with fellow peers on assessments and projects; BYOD can further aid productivity and content creation.
Research shows students prefer the mobility, smaller weight and adaptability of tablet devices. Therefore the recommended device is the iPad 128 GB A9 chip 9.7 inch Retina Display. We strongly advise that the ‘STM’ case (protective polycarbonate, rubberised and water resistant) and AppleCare be purchased.
The iPad starts at $521. There is a bundle including a STM case and AppleCare for $670. A keyboard included bundle is $740.
Zuludesk and Required Applications
The College has begun Zuludesk Implementation. Zuludesk allows the College to download paid and free Apps and ‘push’ them onto your child’s iPad for use in school and at home. From time to time new Apps will appear on their iPad as we obtain more applications for classroom use. Without Zuludesk parents will be responsible for downloading these apps at their own expense.
Parents will also be able to access the Zuludesk Parent Portal. The Portal will allow you to restrict social media, text messages or gaming on your child’s iPad for a set period of time, allowing your child to complete study and homework without distractions.
If you do not wish the College to install Zuludesk on your child’s iPad you are responsible for downloading the applications that students require.
Winthrop Australia bundles may have accessories and warranties bundled in to ensure the best price and experience for the student’s education. Whatever you decide to purchase as a parent, you will get great pricing and service from Winthrop.
If comparing prices with other suppliers, always check you are comparing the newest iPad 128GB model.
