At ASC, we expect our students to be prepared for class. As a BYOD school, it is really important that students remember to bring their iPads completely charged each day. iPads are used regularly in all learning areas for creating and submitting assessments, not for recreational purposes. If students forget their iPad or it is flat by the end of the day, they could be disadvantaging their learning. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child is organised and ready to learn every day.
Fogarty EdVance workshop
Several of our staff had a busy weekend attending a Fogarty EdVance workshop on curriculum planning for Explicit Direct Instruction. This very focused whole school approach is making a difference for our students.
Uniforms – House Points
Just a reminder to families, please ask your child to check their shirt pockets before they go in the wash. Some parents have accidentally washed the brightly coloured House Points left in the shirt pockets which has stained the fabric.
Replacement shirts can be ordered from Willetton, onsite at our Uniform Shop 8am-10.30am every Tuesday and Thursday during the school term. https://www.aveleysc.wa.edu.au/for-parents/uniforms/
Zuludesk
Year 8 student iPads are now being installed with Zuludesk. Parents will be notified by email of their child’s scheduled day.
If your child misses their scheduled day please ask them to bring their iPad and form to Administration the following day.
For more information about Zuludesk please see the Explaining ICT Charges document located on our website.
Please note the $10.00 charge for Zuludesk is now due. Payment can be made via QKR, bPoint or EFTPOS. Thank you to the families that have already paid.
We will have a catch up for Year 7 iPads once the Year 8’s have been finished.

Year Book
The 2018 Year Book is about to go to print and should be available by week 8 this term. If you haven’t yet ordered your copy this can be done via QKR and selecting the 2018 Year Book payment item. We are really pleased with how it is looking and highlights all our events and students in action throughout the year.

Term 1 Academies
The first week of our Term 1 academies have been a huge hit with the Art and Science academies at capacity and Netball and Soccer have over 50 students in each group!
We are so pleased to see the incredible participation of our after-school academies and are looking forward to seeing what our students create.
There are still spaces available in our Music, Public Speaking/Debating and Bird Conservation Project academy if you are interested in enrolling.
Zuludesk Catchups
The roll out of Zuludesk onto Year 7 iPads is almost complete with the last class group scheduled to finish on Thursday.
If your year 7 child has not yet brought their iPad and permission form into the front office please remind them to do so by Friday 1 March.
Zuludesk implementation for Year 8’s will commence next week and any Year 7 students that have missed their scheduled day will be asked to wait until the Year 8 roll out is complete and a catch-up day can be organised.
Zuludesk allows the College to ‘push’ apps onto your child’s iPad and the Parent Portal will allow you to restrict social media, text messages or gaming on your child’s iPad for a set period of time. Without Zuludesk parent’s will be required to purchase and download the necessary apps at home.

760 School Service Bus Timetable
Commencing Monday 25 February the Transperth 760 bus service morning route times will change.
The 760 bus service will be departing the starting point in Baskerville (Haddrill Road / Campersic Road intersection) 10 minutes earlier, and therefore the bus should arrive at all stops 10 minutes earlier. It is advised that students check Transperth’s Journey Planner on Monday for specific times at each stop. https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/journey-planner
Transperths’ new app is also available and includes the real time tracking of buses and trains. If students have access to a smart phone and are able to download the Transperth app, they will be able to see the location of the bus and ensure that it is not missed.
Parent Meet and Greet
The parent meet and greet held last night was a great opportunity for families to take a look at the college and meet their child’s teachers. I want to acknowledge the great turn out and the work of our staff to in preparing to host, cook and entertain so many guests. It was very encouraging to hear the positive stories from so many students and families about the start of the year.
