2021 Parent Representatives Board Election

We would like to thank all of the parents who have nominated for the College Board. We greatly appreciate their commitment to assist in the development of the College. The following candidates statements should be read for the online election.

Michelle Anderson

Strong leadership and a clear vision are essential as Aveley Secondary College moves forwards in exciting new directions.  I would like to join the school on this journey as a Member of the Board, and help to guide the school and the students towards successful outcomes, both now and in the future.

As a previous employee of the Department of Child Protection and Family Support, and current employee of WA Police, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of people from differing socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.  My work requires me to act with honesty and integrity, and to act fairly and impartially at all times.

I am also on the Executive Committee as Club Registrar at Northern Redbacks Women's Soccer Club, and have been in this role for the past three years.  Working on this committee has highlighted the importance of having clear objectives and priorities, and establishing appropriate policies and codes which support the members.

I understand the important role good governance plays in ensuring the success of the school, and believe my experience will help me to support the school and to act in the best interests of the student community.

Tanya Beverly

I currently have one child at the school in Year 8.  We live locally and chose the school because of its size, the beautiful trees, environmental area and location.  I myself went to a high school similar in size which was great because of the lovely community feel, which I believe our school has.

I have been a Police Officer for 25 years now and within that time a Detective for 12 years.  I have worked in an array of different offices dealing with serious crime.  I have worked in the Pilbara and lived within a very tight knit Aboriginal Community.  My role now within WA Police is Community Engagement and I love it, it supports the safety of our youth and their development.

My motivation for being involved with the school board commenced several months after my daughter had issues with two students.  The school dealt with the matter promptly and supported her with genuine interest.  I am not an educator, nor am I overly business minded but am there with the interest of our children and the parents.  My motivation is to ensure the school is accountable and is staying on task to provide the best holistic school environment to our children.

 Michelle Del Nero

I would like to apply to nominate for the Aveley Secondary College Board Parent position.

I have previous experience on Boards, most recently as a Parent Representative for Aveley Secondary College Board for the last 3 years and prior to that as a Board Chair and Parent Representative for 6 years at Aveley Primary School.

I have learnt many valuable processes and procedures during this time and I feel that I could bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Aveley Secondary College Board.

On a personal note, I have over 20yrs experience in the Sporting and Hospitality Industries, mainly in the private sector and predominately management roles.

For the last 7yrs I have established my own Wellness business and continue to work in that field.

With both of my kids now attending Aveley Secondary College, it would be a privilege to continue my association with the school and to help work at developing a successful College community moving forward.

Nathan Haldane

I am an Aircraft Engineer so I am an analytical thinker with a high attention to detail.  I have been living in our community since moving to WA in 2014 and I have no plans on moving on as I love it here.  I am a caring and present father of two boys and have a keen interest in my children’s education, school and learning.  I love and value the community we live in and wish to be a part of Aveley Secondary College’s success in teaching our children and preparing them for the world.  I can bring open and honest opinions of how to improve our school and help our children to succeed in whatever they desire.

Matthew Harvey

I am nominating for the School Board because I want to be involved in my daughter’s school and believe I have skills to offer.  My specialty is in the area of strategic planning, developed over a 30 year career in the Royal Australian Air Force.  As a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors I understand my obligations as a member of a board.  I believe my skills and experience will be a valuable contribution to the School Board if elected.

My daughter has just started at Aveley Secondary College after completing her Primary schooling at Anne Hammersley.  I am a strong believer in education and the important role it plays in setting our children up for success in life.

Jessica Peach

Choosing a school is one of the hardest decisions we make for our children.  I respect Aveley Secondary College’s core values and commitments to allow students to reach their full potential.

We are a typical FIFO family and residents of Ellenbrook.  I am a full-time nursing student at Murdoch University, completing a Bachelor of Nursing, also working part-time as a Mental Health Enrolled Nurse.

I have two children at the school in both Year 7 and 9.

I am passionate about my role as a parent representative on the school board.  I will support the common goal of decision making for the future of the school to improve the education and support of our children.

Juanita Prestianni

I am a parent within the school community and have a child in Year 8.  My other children are aged 18 and 5, who have recently finished and/or are currently schooling also within the local community.  I have experienced parenting at many different life junctions therefore I feel I can have a balanced understanding of our school community.  I had my first child at 19, experienced being a single parent working multiple jobs and managing a tight budget.  My second child was born when I was 24, married and in the formative years of creating a career.  Our third child arrived when I was 33, with an established career I was able to take leave and experience being a stay at home parent for 12 months.

Professionally I have been in leadership roles for 13+ years in various capacities with my current position being Director of Customer within a state government agency.  I lead directly and indirectly teams spanning 60+ diverse members within the public sector however have extensive leadership experience in the financial sector and bring a realm of experiences to draw knowledge from.

I feel compelled to apply for a board role as I feel passionate about the success of Aveley Secondary College.  I am excited at the prospect of joining a membership which has already shown success in supporting a thriving new school.  I feel my skills and experience as a parent who has already fully completed the high school experience as well as a professional member of our community would provide a valuable contribution.
