Aveley Secondary College Education Support Program provides specialist educational programs for students (7-12) with moderate to complex disabilities that result in a substantially reduced functional capacity to learn. Education support programs meet the needs of students who have a disability that is expected to be lifelong. They typically require substantial or extensive adjustments to enable them to participate in activities and achieve learning outcomes. Substantial or extensive adjustments may include high-level personal and/or medical care.
Education support enrolment criteria for students are:
- evidence that the intellectual disability, physical disability, or autism diagnosis demonstrates eligibility for an individual disability allocation;
- the disability and any co-existing conditions result in a substantially reduced functional capacity to learn that is expected to be life-long; and
- A substantial or extensive level of adjustment is required to provide an appropriate education program.
An individualised assessment is made of all incoming enrolments to ensure that students meet the department enrolment criteria. As the College is under accommodation pressure, spaces are limited. Preference is given to students in the local intake area. Out of area places are limited and enrolment applications are assessed and prioritised according to the severity of disability, the functional impact and the adjustments required.
Specialist Education Support Teachers and Education Assistants deliver evidence-based, individualised programmes to develop each student’s educational, physical and social skills. Our integrated location within the mainstream campus allows us to tailor the education experience for each student, so that they can learn and access facilities and resources across the College as appropriate.
For students in the Education Support Program at Aveley Secondary College, we believe:

As part of the enrolment application process, parent and student agreement is required on a number of policies prior to commencing at the College. Education Support students work to whole school standards and expectations around attendance, dress code and other administrative requirements.
