The Year 8 Lightning Carnival was held last week with teams representing the college in Basketball, Soccer, Netball and AFL. Congratulations to all students who participated. There were some great individual and team efforts and respectable results with our girl’s soccer and netball teams finishing in second place and boys basketball and AFL teams finishing in third place.
Visual Art
The Year 7 students at Aveley SC have completed their Melanie Hava inspired paintings. They completed an acrylic pour background and then chose an animal silhouette to paint onto canvas, after undertaking inquiry on the iPad. Students then examined indigenous artist Melanie Hava’s work closely, to complete their paintings. Since then, Ms. McElhinney has been in touch with Melanie, sending her pictures of the artworks she inspired; here was her response…
“The works the student have done are fantastic! I loved seeing the photos of their paintings. I also love how they used fluid painting to achieve the backgrounds. I hope that they keep up their great work and keep practicing at home!”
Year 8 Dance
This semester, our Year 8 students are learning and developing the technique of tumbling in Dance. Tumbling is a mixed dance form of breaking and contemporary dance which focuses on improving students strength, coordination and body alignment. Our dancers are enjoying the thrill of going over the floor in a friendly and safe learning environment.
Tumbling is a great platform to give our students a direction into contemporary dance. Our aim is encourage our Aveley students onto tertiary institutions like the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and other dance schools around Australia.
