At Aveley Secondary College, we offer a range of before and after-school Academies designed to extend students’ learning, develop new skills, and foster personal growth beyond the classroom. Our Academies provide opportunities for students to explore their interests, build confidence, and engage with peers in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Each term, we offer a diverse selection of Academies, catering to a variety of student interests. Whether students are looking to refine their sporting skills, unleash their creativity, or enhance their academic success, there is something for everyone. Below are some of the Academies that have previously been offered at Aveley Secondary College.
Languages & Culture
- Te Reo Māori – Learn the New Zealand language, including Marae customs, greetings and conversational Māori.
- African DIY Crafts – Engage in hands-on crafting, realistic drawing and acrylic painting inspired by African culture.
- Afrobeat Dance – Develop technical skills in African cultural dance, including body control, safe dance practice, and choreography.
Performing & Creative Arts
- ASC Choir – Join our College choir, build confidence in vocal performance, and take part in College and community events.
- Line Dancing – Have fun learning new dance moves, developing rhythm and mastering popular line dances in an energetic setting.
- ATAR Visual Art Preparation (ATAR Visual Art students only) – Dedicated time for ATAR students to work on practical and theory components.
- Visual Art Acceleration (Year 10 only) – Work on a year-long project exploring a theme to create a final artwork, preparing for senior art pathways.
Sports & Physical Activities
- Junior Basketball (Years 7-9) – Build confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship while improving basketball skills.
- Girls’ Field Hockey – Learn and develop hockey skills, with an opportunity to be selected for the SSWA Hockey Tournament.
- Volleyball – Train after school, improve your game and compete in interschool tournaments.
Strategy & Gaming
- Chess Club – Improve your chess skills, develop critical thinking and engage in friendly competition.
- Board Games – Challenge your mind and enjoy strategic games in a social and relaxed atmosphere.
- Dungeons & Dragons – Create characters, explore fantasy worlds and solve puzzles in this immersive tabletop gaming experience.
Academic & Leadership
- Prodigy – A fun, game-based literacy and numeracy program that feels more like an adventure than learning!
- AEP Problem Solving & Competition (Year 7-8 AEP students) – Prepare for academic competitions with guided problem-solving practice.
- Homework Academy – A quiet space for students to complete homework or study with teacher support.
